Stephane Roy, a producer working at Eidos Montreal, says that her team has polished the main ideas of the Thief series as the development process has progressed, but has never abandoned the main vision, which is built around stealth and a solid narrative.

She tells the Official PlayStation Blog that, “As any other game in development, Thief evolved and matured as the team has worked on it. The high level vision remained constant; we always wanted to give the player the experience of playing as the Master Thief, the light and shadow gameplay, and the ability to play with the AI.”

Sources have reported that the main features of Thief have changed radically as the team tested different concepts, some designed to appeal to a modern audience and some based on the classic gameplay of the series that hardcore fans love.

Roy adds, “Players new and old will be able to jump straight in and enjoy the story right away. It’s a fresh opportunity to fall in love with Garrett all over again.”

The Eidos Montreal team wants to make the City in which Garrett lives one of the main characters of the experience and that means that plenty of opportunities will be offered to explore side content and interact with a number of characters.

The power of the PlayStation 4 will be used to make sure that enemies are smarter than in the old games and can track the player when he breaks stealth.

At the same time, the core gameplay elements of the series will be the same regardless of the platform that gamers choose to use.

The new Thief will be launched on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft, current-gen devices and the PC on February 25 in the United States and three days later in Europe.
