Success might get gamers one

As always in the videogaming business, a successful release leads to questions about whether a long running franchise is born. Batman: Arkhmam Asylum, which closes the dark crusader with a variety of villains like Killer Croc, The Riddle and the Joker in the gothic and gargoyle filled insane prison, has been received quite well by players and by critics alike, so the people at Rocksteady, the developer of the videogame, have been quickly fielding questions about the sequel.

Paul Crocker, who is the lead narrative designer on the Batman videogame, has told CVG that “We'll have to wait and see if anyone buys this” before adding “I hope so. We're just really pleased to have been given the chance to work on Batman. I'm a complete comics nerd, I used to work in a comics store... this is a dream come true for me. I'm sure people will want more. We don't know. You'll have to wait and see.”

Apparently, Crocker has not been taking a close look at the charts in the United Kingdom, where the Dark Knight has taken over the top spot in its first week and where it seems poised to stay until the release of Halo 3: ODST, which comes on September 22.

This is quite a performance for a game released by Eidos and which was widely seen, at one point, as a belated attempt to pick up some revenue on the back of the success enjoyed by the movie The Dark Knight.

It will be interesting to see what could be a sequel to Arkham Asylum. The people at Rocksteady would need to find another location prominent in the Batman universe, devise a plot that brings some new well known villains to that location and then introduce Batman himself to the mix, taking his enemies out in innovative ways.
