The original Deus Ex was such an important gaming experience that any news about the sequel that is in development at Eidos Montreal is scrutinized by those who are keen to see a game which has the same freedom and innovation as the title created by Ion Storm. New statements from Jean-Francois Dugas, the director working on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, suggest that choice and consequences are still central to the experience that will be delivered at some point in February 2011.

Speaking to Gamasutra as part of a bigger interview the Eidos Montreal executive has stated the game is “about is the consequence of choice, letting them play the fantasy the way they want, letting them explore the maps and find creative ways to achieve their objectives. This is the heart of the experience.” He also talked about how the team working on the video game was initially a bit scared about creating content for the game, saying, “You're used to thinking that every single bit that you build, players need to see, because it's so expensive to be making a game. I will spend three months on something, but if a player doesn't see it -- 'Oh my God, we cannot do that. We can't afford this.'”

Human Revolution is set before the events of the first Deus Ex, in 2027. The main character is initially a lowly security guard at a company which creates augmentations and is injured in an attack, forced to undergo surgery in order to survive, becoming equal parts man and machine. Because of the time frame of the video game augmentations are not based in nano technology but on mechanical additions. They are divided into different classes allowing each player to create a character that is best suited to his playing style. The overall style of the game will combine Renaissance and cyberpunk elements.
