Dell is considering the possibility to offer Android 2.2 Froyo to its Dell Streak owners in the US. The UK version of the slate already tastes a leaked Android 2.1 software update, but Android 1.6 is still the official solution for it.

Dell's Android-based Streak tablet is on its way to becoming more appealing than it currently is, it seems, since its maker has already committed to proving users with a software update to one of the latest Android versions out there, namely Android 2.2.

According to the latest news on the matter, the Froyo solution would actually come to the Dell Streak available for purchase on the United States market, which is currently shipping with Android 1.6 on board, while the UK flavor of the device might be close to enjoying an update to the Android 2.1 operating system.

A leaked Android 2.1 software update for the UK version of Dell Streak already emerged into the wild, it seems, but only for the O2 locked models, though Engadget says that some managed to put it on an unlocked tablet too.

Unfortunately, this is not the final build, but it still shows that Dell might be closer than expected from providing users with the official version of the software update. For the time being, however, the vast majority of Streak owners would still run Android 1.6.

Unfortunately, no specific info on when the Android 2.2 software update for the US Streak would start rolling-out emerged, though it might not be too long before Dell announces it, even if the device has just been put on sale.

In the meantime, we should note that the tablet is available for purchase in the US for $549.99, SIM free. Dell made it available with a 2-year AT&T contract activation too, priced at only $299.99 in this case.

More details on how the tablet can be purchased are available directly from Dell here.
