New movie featuring the two Hollywood stars will be followed by a game

We doubt that the legendary actors, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are gamers but, either way, hearing that a movie they will both star in will be released at the same time with a casual title sounds at least a bit odd. We have played Scarface, we know that the world is ours and the two actors should star in more hardcore titles. But probably game developers know better.

This casual title I'm talking about, Righteous Kill, will be released later this summer and if the name doesn't ring a bell, you should know that a homonymous Hollywood movie, featuring De Niro and Pacino, will be released on the 12th of September 2008. The game will be a hidden object title in which the players take the role of a rookie cop who is tasked to capture vigilante killers. You'll get to do it for 15 levels and 16 environments, each of them mixed with various mini-games.

"Righteous Kill is a tremendous opportunity to create a game that will really appeal to the traditional casual gamer," explained Lloyd Melnick, Chief Customer Officer at Merscom, "but also opens up a whole new market for casual games. This movie is going to get huge exposure because Pacino and De Niro are beloved by audiences everywhere and we expect millions of people who have never heard of casual games or hidden objects to take notice. What we hope they'll find is they also love hidden object games".

This could be a good strategy, after all, and maybe Merscom, the project's developers, really plan to bring new audiences to the gaming world, just to make sure we have players to compete against with in other more hardcore online games. But we'll get to see exactly what happens later this summer, when the game is released.
