“Twilight” star Robert Pattinson has often talked about his bewilderment when it comes to the so-called Twilight mania that drives fans from all over the world to stand in queues for days and endure who knows what kind of hardship just to get a chance to see their idols. Still, one of the things that will continue to puzzle him is that of fans asking him to bite them, as he revealed on his first ever appearance on David Letterman.

After tackling the story of how he once took a stalker (of sorts) out to dinner and then almost bore her to death so that she never sought him afterwards, Robert was eager to answer Letterman’s question as to what he made of the “bite me” craze. As expected and is customary with all of Letterman’s guests, Pattinson also joked a bit about it, recalling one time when he was asked to and bit a male fan – and even decided afterwards that he had enjoyed it.

“So I did.” Pattinson says of the 230-pound male fan who made the strange request earlier this week, when the actor was on the red carpet for the premiere of “New Moon,” the second film in the franchise. “And the surprising thing was, I kinda liked it afterwards. And then I’ve been out to dinner with him a couple of times since,” Pattinson goes on to say, barely able to contain his laughter.

On a more serious note (but not really), the British actor goes on to answer Letterman’s question of how it feels when girls ask him to bite them. “Well, it depends on your mood, really. And it depends, you know, what you want to get out of it in the end. There’s variations of biting.” To this, Letterman points out that, “That’s not healthy, especially with the swine flu going around.”

However, it’s not until Letterman bites the bullet and asks the one question that’s been on people’s lips for over a year now that he too succumbs to the craze and asks Pattinson to bite him too. “I’ve been so kind-of cryptically avoiding this question throughout the entire…” Robert begins to say when the talk show host asks him whether he and Kristen Stewart are dating. However, before he has any chance of finishing off that sentence, Letterman cuts in smiling and says, “Aw, bite me. What do I care.”
