He’s just as popular for his fashion choices as he is for the many hairstyles he tried throughout the years. In hair too, David Beckham is a trendsetter. A recent photo of the football star shows him with what looks very much like a bald patch.

Many female celebrities have shown signs of balding spots, which are best explained by their love of hair extensions – damage done by taking the extensions out eventually becomes visible.

However, this is the first time that Becks too is pictured with such a patch on his head.

“Beckham, who at one time had a multi-million-pound sponsorship deal with Brylcreem, still chooses to grease back his hair,” the Daily Mail writes in an article accompanying the “incriminating” photo in question.

“Unfortunately, this did little to conceal the area of skin apparently visible around the crown,” the tab adds.

However, the photo, taken outside a restaurant in Los Angeles, where the Beckham family had gone to have lunch, could have also been a bad case of tricky lighting, the same publication admits.

In fact, hairstylist Karine Jackson believes this to be the case, since, otherwise, David isn’t showing any signs of premature baldness.

“As a woman I love to look at David Beckham’s hair and I was a bit shocked to see this. Certainly, he has been thinning over the last ten years. However, we have seen photographs of him in the ocean recently and if he was going bald you would have noticed it before,” Jackson says for the Mail.

“Indeed, a particular bald patch is very rare in male pattern baldness so it could be a trick of the light. Alternatively, it could be a temporary loss caused by, for example, bruising from a football match,” she adds.

Of the female stars who have been pictured with such bald spots, one could mention Naomi Campbell, Beckham’s wife Victoria and, last but not least, Britney Spears.
