Vigil Games has confirmed that its upcoming Darksiders II hack and slash title will be available for the Nintendo Wii U console right when it's released at the end of the year.

The Nintendo Wii U was revealed back at E3 2011 and, right in its presentation, the Japanese company confirmed that lots of quality games would arrive for it, including Batman: Arkham City, which already appeared last year on the PC, PS3 or Xbox 360, as well as the upcoming Darksiders II.

Now, Vigil Games, the developer of Darksiders II, has confirmed that the hack and slash title will be a day-one release for the Wii U.

According to Hayden Dalton, the studio's lead designer, Nintendo has worked hard to make sure Vigil takes advantage of the Wii U's features, including its unique controller.

"That's been very interesting to see what those guys are doing, and they're making efforts to make sure we do use it in more than a slapdash way," he told Digital Spy. "It's basically the core game, but then with added abilities to do certain things that you can't do on the other consoles."

Dalton exemplified his statement talking about the ability to change equipment like weapons or armor on the fly, by pushing on the Wii U's tablet controller, instead of going into a menu, like on other consoles.

"One of the things that we did, when we were originally going to show it off, was that you could equip stuff directly. So, for instance, I could be running along and I could click on another piece and I could put it on as I'm running through the game," he revealed. "That's huge, it's not breaking up the game in a way, I'm not going into a menu and assigning it, I'm literally just tapping as I'm playing."

The core Darksiders II experience will still be the same as it is on other platforms, but the Wii U's features allows Vigil to add lots of new things.

"We're not basically heavily changing the core game to support the control system, but the control system will be an enhancement of the core game," Dalton concluded.

Darksiders II will appear on June 26, in North America, and June 29, in the rest of the world, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Wii U version is expected at the end of the year, alongside the actual console.
