Electronic Arts doesn't have the best of reputations in the gaming industry as it exploited many of its franchises through yearly installments for quite some time, but, in recent years, it has begun to invest in new projects that might generate even more money.

One studio that has been a great source of new projects is Visceral Games, formerly known as EA Redwood Shores. Having already released Dead Space last year and getting ready to ship Dead Space: Extraction, a prequel made for the Nintendo Wii, the studio is also hard at work creating Dante's Inferno, a hack and slash tribute to Dante Alighieri's epic poem.

Coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, the game has made a pretty big impact on the people who previewed it and is quickly gathering fans through new videos and screenshots. Now these fans will be more than happy to hear the concrete release date of Dante's Inferno, which will arrive on February 9, 2010 in North America and February 12, the same year in Europe and other territories.

“The Divine Comedy is one of the most influential pieces of literature in the world and we have a great responsibility in re-imagining Dante Alighieri’s vivid descriptions of hell, and the themes of righteousness and redemption he explores,” said Jonathan Knight, executive producer of Dante’s Inferno. “Our team is dedicated to delivering a stunning and highly polished interpretation of this classic to a new medium for a new generation everywhere this February.”

As you can figure it out, you will be playing as Dante, who travels through all of the nine circles of Hell in order to save his beloved Beatrice, who was kidnapped by Lucifer and taken into the fiery depths. As any hack and slash game, the combat will be predominant and quite gruesome, as Dante can wield both a scythe and a holy cross in order to defeat the legions of demons from Hell.

For those of you willing to get into the experience even more, a six-issue comic book series will be arriving from DC Comics and Wildstorm, while an animated feature film will be made by EA and Starz Media and will appear at the same time as the game.
