Some users already received their units

July 15 should bring a new reason to rejoice for some of Verizon Wireless' customers, as that is the day when the latest Android-based mobile phone for the carrier is put on sale. We're talking here about the Motorola DROID X, which was announced officially a few weeks ago, and which is already available for pre-order from the operator. However, it seems that not all those who ordered the DROID X in advance would receive it on July 15, as some of the handsets have been already shipped out to users.

According to a recent article on Droid-Life, at least one Verizon customer received his device earlier than originally expected. Moreover, it seems that representatives with the wireless services provider already confirmed that some user called in trying to activate their new Motorola DROID X devices. For the time being, no official explanation on the matter was provided, but chances are that the phones were shipped by mistake.

Of course, other theories might also be taken into consideration, such as the fact that Verizon did this on purpose. But, considering the issue it experiences with DROID Incredible, it's rather unlikely. The carrier does not take pre-orders for the handset at the moment, and even Best Buy announced last week that it does not guarantee that each user would receive his/her unit on launch day, and that pre-orders are being suspended. Motorola said previously that it can hardly meet demand for DROID, and it surely does not want to enter a loop of delays as HTC entered with Incredible.

One way or the other, the good news is that some Verizon customers started to receive their DROID X units. Whether the move was an accidental one, or part of Verizon's marketing campaign for the new Android-based device, it remains to be seen. In the meantime, we should note that those interested in the handset would be able to order / purchase it starting with July 15. A few more details on what DROID X can do are available in the video below (via Android and Me).
