Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility and wireless carrier Verizon are gearing up for the release of a new handset powered by Google's Android operating system, namely the Motorola DROID Bionic. The handset was expected to arrive on shelves at the wireless carrier several months ago, but the vendor decided to push it back a little so as to perform a series of changes to its design.

Some of the latest rumors on this device suggested that Motorola and Verizon might be set to make the new device available as soon as early August, but it seems that the phone will not hit shelves until September is here.

A photo with what is said to be the Motorola DROID Bionic has just made an appearance into the wild, along with rumors on the possible September release date for the device.

Apparently, the new device might hit the market as soon as September 1st, although nothing is confirmed on this for the time being. Rumor has it that Motorola has started informing Verizon employees that the handset might be released only in early September, in line with the aforementioned launch day.

Moreover, some details on the handset itself also started to emerge, suggesting it might land on the market with the same large 4.3-inch touchscreen display as the recently launched DROID X2 and DROID 3 smartphones. The DROID Bionic is also said to be lighter than before and to have been packed with some more RAM, which makes it both lighter than before and more responsive.

The mobile phone will connect to the Verizon 4G LTE network, being the fourth Android smartphone the wireless carrier would make available with this capability on board.

For the time being, nothing is confirmed on the availability of this phone, but specific details on this should emerge in the near future, so stay tuned for more.
