If you are interested in the purchase of a new dual-core Android-based handset on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless in the United States, then you're in luck, as the latest such handset to hit the shelves, the DROID 3 by Motorola, is now available for $50 less if purchased through various retailers in the country.

The mobile phone was launched sporting a price tag of $199.99 attached to it, with the signing of a contract agreement with the wireless carrier, and is now available for only $149.99 via Amazon and Wirefly.

Contract free, the handset would go for as much as $599.99, still less than what other high-end smartphones on the market at the moment cost.

The DROID 3 was launched with a large 4-inch touchscreen display on the front, capable of delivering a qHD 960 x 540-pixel resolution, complemented by a sliding five-row QWERTY keyboard.

It sports the similar form factor as its predecessors, the DROID by Motorola and DROID 2 Global, but adds a series of enhancements when it comes to the performance capabilities it can deliver, courtesy of a dual-core application processor.

“Delivering power for work and play, the ultra-thin, full QWERTY Motorola DROID 3 smartphone for Verizon Wireless makes a big statement with lightning quick dual-core processing and the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system,” Amazon notes.

“And the screen is made of scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass with a glare-reducing coating. The 5-row keyboard makes it easier than ever to quickly type responses to e-mails, update Facebook or Twitter status, and edit documents on the go.”

The smartphone was launched with an 8-megapixel rear camera with support for HD video recording, as well as with a secondary front-facing camera for video chat.

DROID 3's specifications list also include support for WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, GPS receiver, and built-in 3G Mobile Hotspot, along with DLNA capabilities.

It also comes with 16 GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.
