Deployed for the first time in September, Android 2.3 Gingerbread for Verizon DROID 2 Global smartphones was pulled after a short while due to several issues.

However, the roll out process was resumed last week with promises that all the problems reported by users have been corrected.

Unfortunately, the update was still plagued by various bugs, more or less critical, and Verizon was forced to pull the upgrade for the second time.

Recently, DROID 2 Global owners have started to report they have been notified to download and install the infamous Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update.

Will this be the third time lucky for DROID 2 Global users or Verizon and Motorola will pull the update again without further notice.

Concerning the update changelog, it appears that nothing is changed except the firmware version, which is now 4.5.608.A956.Verizon.en.US.

Enhancements:

- New App to manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps; - New ability to enter numbers and symbols with keyboard shortcut combos, instead of having to change to the numeric keyboard mode; - New capability to select a word via press-hold. A second press of the selected word copies the selected characters; - New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.

Email and Messaging:

- Exchange Active Sync calendar events created on the device will now push to your PC calendar; - POP3/IMAP emails now show the correct date stamp.

Additional Device Features:

- Improvements in stability prevent lockups, resets and force close errors. - Improved battery life while using Bluetooth. - Access My Verizon without any force close errors. - Reset Backup Assistant under Manage Applications menu. - Enhanced connectivity when roaming in GSM/UMTS networks (Europe and India).  - Improved battery life during Wi-Fi use. - Exchange ActiveSync encryption fails after OTA update.

In addition, several new applications are now pre-loaded on DROID 2 Global, including Google Books, Accuweather, Amazon MP3 Store, Blockbuster and Adobe Flash Player 10.2.
