Mobile phone carrier Sprint and Samsung Mobile have just released a software update for the high-end Android-based Galaxy Tab, the first tablet PC the leading handset vendor brought to the market with Google's operating system on board.

The new software solution should be delivered as update DJ30, and was aimed at all Galaxy tab devices that have DJ14 on therm.

“Samsung has released a software update for the SPH-P100 Samsung GALAXY Tab which is recommended to be installed,” the mobile phone maker notes on its website.

“If the device contains DJ14, a notification to update to DJ30 should be received. The update process will be performed OTA (Over The Air). It may take several moments to complete,” the company continues.

However, since there might be users with the new solution already installed on their devices, they won't be notified on this software update, which makes sense.

“Devices running DJ30 will not receive a network notification to update nor will it be available from client side request. DJ30 cannot be installed on a device that has DJ30 already on it,” the company notes.

The changelog for the new software update includes:

- SMS Short Code text messages - Microsoft Exchange IT Admin policy compliance - Text messages sent using Wi-Fi - Qik video chat - Sprint Zone as trusted source - Start up and shut down screens

This is a firmware over the air solution, which means that users would be able to download and install it via the wireless carrier's network as well. The installation process should not be interrupted, as the device might be harmed in this situation.

All the necessary details on how the new software update can be downloaded and installed on a Galaxy Tab on Sprint's network can be found on Samsung's website here.

The new software update weighs in at only 6MB, and should not take too long for it to download and install on the tablet PC.
