The recent impressive trailer and the gameplay demo shown for Battlefield 3 were running on a PC and some gamers have questioned whether the same level of quality and fluidity can be achieved when playing the final game on home consoles.

DICE says that it has specifically designed the Frostbite 2 engine in order to deliver impressive quality on all platforms.

Gustav Tilleby, who is a game director working on Battlefield 3, has said, “The positive thing is that the new rendering technique allows us to do more complex calculations at no extra cost.”

He then added, “That’s the magic. The game will look very good, even on 360.”

Patrick Bach, who is a producer on Battlefield 3, has also said, “We knew that people would think that this demo was running on PC, but the good thing is that it’s all based on streaming. I can promise you that the console versions will still look amazing because of the core technology. If you have a 360, we want to use that machine to the maximum.”

During last week, the developers at DICE stated that the PC was again their main development platform for Battlefield 3 and expressed remorse at not being able to deliver the spin-off Bad Company 2 to the platform.

The demonstration made for Battlefield 3 at GDC involved a squad of American troops traveling through a dangerous section of an Iraqi town and fighting off an ambush, showing off the superb graphics of the game and the way the team uses destruction to show off the stress of combat and enhance the experience of the player.

Battlefield 3 does not yet have a launch date, but Electronic Arts says that gamers can expect it during the fall for the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

The publisher has also already announced a pre-order deal for the game, allowing players to get access to old Battlefield 2 maps that have been remade using the new Frostbite 2 engine.
