Cypress Semiconductor Corp. announced recently that its TrueTouch touchscreen solution has been included in the new docomo PRIME series N-02B mobile phone, manufactured by NEC. The handset, announced officially at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, comes with a 12-megapixel camera that can be easily maneuvered from the touchscreen, offering both speed and convenience. At the same time, the solution offers an intuitive multitouch capability, so that users can enjoy control through gestures like tap, double-tap, pan, pinch, scroll, rotate and others.

Cypress also announced that it had come along at the MWC show to demonstrate the capabilities of its solution, and that handsets could also benefit from its mass storage controllers and precision motion sensing technology. As for the N-02B, it comes with appealing photography features, including the ability to automatically adjust the brightness, sensitivity and picture quality accordingly. At the same time, the device also includes HSDPA, Wireless LAN, GPS and Bluetooth, as well as 5.1-channel SRS TruMedia sound, enabling users to watch high-quality videos.

The N-02B from NEC is another example of a worldwide leader using the unique TrueTouch capabilities to deliver an innovative touchscreen solution. As more exciting TrueTouch-based products hit the market, we expect to see new implementations that take advantage of our rich features set,” Norm Taffe, executive vice president of Cypress’s Consumer and Computation Division, said. Hitoshi Yoshizawa, Japan country manager for Cypress, added, “The touchscreen focus feature with the 12-Mpixel resolution makes this phone very attractive. We are pleased to add a leader such as NEC to our growing TrueTouch customer base in Japan.”

The TrueTouch family from Cypress is based on the PSoC programmable system-on-chip architecture, and includes offerings like single-touch, multitouch and “multitouch all-point.” The company is the first to have ever included the multitouch all-point functionality, which has been designed to track unlimited simultaneous touches, and which offers makers the possibility to come to the market with very appealing devices. The solution comes with great flexibility, enabling designers to make last-minute iterations without board changes.
