Crytek, the company behind the upcoming Crysis 2 and other technologically-advanced titles like the original Crysis or Far Cry, has just revealed that its newest game can't be done on rival engines like Epic Games' Unreal one.

Crysis 2 is set to be one of the most impressive games this generation, with Crytek using its brand new CryEngine 3 rendering technology.

Now, the company, through the voice of its CEO, Cevat Yerli, has proclaimed that while the CryEngine 3 can probably power almost all of the games out there, no other engine can power Crysis 2.

"I think we've never cared about what competitors do," Yerli said to CVG. "That might sound arrogant and ignorant but that's not the point. I'm trying to do what we think is the right thing to do. We're trying to build an engine that's the most productive from a flow perspective, one that allows designers, directors, artists, programmers and everyone else in the whole development chain to be as efficient as possible."

"Most importantly, right now we're looking at multiplatform development and I just think that our competitors' engines couldn't deliver Crysis 2, and that's the most important statement for me."

This doesn't mean every other developer in the world should just flock to the CryEngine 3 technology, as Yerli says that there's still room in the industry for more engines.

"I really am not saying we're going to have the best engine in the world and there's no room for more engines, for that matter I think there's room for even five engines. With more engines people will have to be more innovative."

"Whether our engine is better or not is something to be judged by the people who use the engine, but I can say that Crysis 2 wouldn't have been possible with any other engine, but pretty much any other game that has been shipped with out competitors' engines could have been done with the Crytek engine."

As of right now, Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 is at the heart of many games, but, with the release of Crysis 2, perhaps developers will be swayed towards Crytek's new solution.

Crysis 2 is set to arrive on March 22, in North America, and March 25, in Europe, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
