Government, war and more are being overhauled

We already know that a new Common Sense expansion for Europa Universalis IV is coming on June 9, and it seems that the team at Paradox Development Studio also has plans to introduce more content to another of its big grand strategy titles, Crusader Kings II.

A forum announcement makes it clear that another expansion is coming, although the name and the launch window are not mentioned, and it explains that the associated patch will introduce a range of fixes linked to some core game mechanics.

Paradox mentions that the government for an entity will no longer be determined by the capital holding type and that it will have persistence and even rules that will override some defining elements of a faction, like its religion.

Crusader Kings II will also get changes to the combat system, with a new Commander title used to make sure that only certain characters can lead the flank of an army or regiments from the retinue.

The developers state, "Vassal levy regiments can still be led by your loyal vassals, but a character can never both lead a flank and a regiment. Mercenaries become more useful because they come with their own, good, leaders. Flank leaders apply their martial bonus to all regiments in the flank."

Other problems with battles are also being eliminated by the coming expansion.

The changelog for the associated patch for Crusader Kings II has 620 lines

Paradox is also introducing a new honorary title view, and there are also changes made to the character finds, the way wars are conducted, the religion mechanics, and the way the Artificial Intelligence approaches the game.

Crusader Kings II is a very complex title, and it will be interesting to see what other aspects the coming expansion will transform and what its core theme will be.

Some of the changes that are mentioned by Paradox will be very useful to the extensive mods associated with the game, including the one linked to Game of Thrones.

Given that EU IV is getting the expansion during summer and that Hearts of Iron IV is also set to arrive this year, the new Crusader Kings II content will probably be introduced later in the fall.
