The hottest and most expensive football player in the whole world right now, Cristiano Ronaldo, is definitely not a man to shun pushing boundaries – or erasing them altogether, depending on whom one asks. Just the other night, the star was spotted leaving Beso with a clutch purse under his arm, as TMZ even has video to confirm.

As one might expect, this has not failed to generate mixed reactions, especially in the context in which Ronaldo’s somewhat effeminate fashion style has been brought up for discussion several times before. Decked in casual blue jeans and a body-hugging white tee, Ronaldo was the perfect picture of utmost stylishness with a brown clutch that also matched his sports jacket and shoes.

A man wearing a handbag is no longer a strange occurrence – and this does not apply exclusively to Hollywood – since purses for men (also known as murses) have become a fixture on the scene. However, for a man to choose to go out with a clutch that, to cap it all off, also matches in color the rest of his outfit, might be a step beyond stylishness, right there in the realm of ridiculousness, several fashion-oriented publications point out.

It’s not like Ronaldo is really heartbroken over the comments that are being circulated in the media either. The star, who is currently in LA to celebrate his £80 million transfer to Real Madrid, believes himself to be the best-dressed player in the industry, probably not including David Beckham. He is also extremely proud of having the right body and the necessary confidence to pull of a look that most men would not even dare touch: white tight trunks, pink cap and a pink flower to match, as he revealed in a recent interview.

“I don’t know why people are so interested in what I wear on holiday. Have you seen what people in LA wear? I was the most normal dressed person over there. Anyway, what’s wrong with wearing tight pants? They look good and it’s better than having tan lines down your legs.” Ronaldo was saying a couple of days ago about the outfit, arguing that he’s probably the smartest dresser on the scene right now.
