US-based carrier Cricket has announced recently that it will start offering CAPTR II clamshell feature-phone starting this week. The low-budget handset follows the initially CAPTR mobile phone, which was launched on the market in September 2009.

Even though Cricket CAPTR II is advertised as a camera phone on the carrier's website, users looking for such a device should not take this into consideration, as the phone only includes a low-end VGA module camera.

The feature-phone comes with a 1.8-inch main screen (160x128 pixels resolution) with 262K color support, but also includes a secondary display with 65K color support (96x96 pixels resolution).

Cricket CAPTR II measures 90 x 46 x 18.7mm and weighs 90g (including battery), which makes it rather a large phone, probably meant to make life easier for seniors and people with disabilities.

Other key features of the clamshell include: Bluetooth, support for picture messaging and mobile web browsing, Voice Activated Dialing, Voice Recognition, miniUSB port, and speakerphone.

The triband CDMA phone doesn't includes a card slot for memory expansion, so forget about storing music files, or too many pictures.

The 2.5mm jack port is mostly used by the headset, so users can talk on the phone without pulling it out of the pocket, rather than for listening music.

In addition to these features, the CAPTR II comes with MyHomeScreen for one touch access to favorite information.

The mobile phone is also compatible with Cricket's location based services, Cricket Navigator and MyBackup application.

Cricket CAPTR II is powered by a 900mAh battery, which was rated by the carrier for up to 5 hours of talk time, or 250 hours of standby.

The feature-phone clamshell is available from Cricket starting October 4th and can be bought for as low as $39.99 after a $20 web only discount.

The retail price of the phone is $59.99 and 30% off offer is only available for those buying it through the carrier's website.
