Cricket has officially announced that it added the entry-level Samsung Messager Touch (SCH-r631) to its offerings. The slider is the third Samsung Messager that is now available from Cricket, but the first to feature a touch screen.

Even though it's a low-end handset, Samsung Messager Touch enables Cricket subscribers to take advantage of the unlimited multimedia messaging offered by the carrier's all-inclusive plans.

“Both the Samsung Messager and Samsung Messager II have been incredibly popular additions to our device offerings over the years, and we expect that this new touch screen version will be no different," stated Al Moschner, Cricket's chief operating officer.

The slider Messager Touch comes equipped with a 2.6-inch QVGA touch-screen display, full QWERTY slide-out keypad, easy access to pre-loaded widgets, intuitive navigation through the Samsung Touchwiz Lite interface and MyHomeScreen.

Multimedia options include, real web browsing at 3G speeds, music player with optional microSD memory card support, a 2.0 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth and 100 MB of storage space.

Additional Cricket services supported by the Messager Touch include Cricket Navigator, Mobile Email, and mybackup, providing the user the security they need knowing their contacts are safely backed up.

“The highly affordable Samsung Messager Touch is a great full multimedia solution for our versatile handset line-up,” stated Matt Stoiber, Cricket's vice president and general manager of devices.

“With this new device, our customers have the widely-popular touch screen capabilities at a realistic price, with real-life rate plans they can afford. Cricket now offers everything from basic to Smartphone, and everything in between on our wide-reaching array of devices.”

Samsung Messager Touch can be bought for $159.99 and is available in Cricket branded retail stores, dealers and at the carrier's website. The phone comes in two color schemes, black or white.

Further, customers can get the slider for as low as $89.99, if they benefit from a $20 Web Only Discount, and $50 Mail-in-Offer. To qualify for the latter customers have to subscribe for a $40 plan or higher.
