Also, successful with gamers

The gaming industry has, as with many other types of entertainment, a few people who stand out due to their creativity and their success with the mainstream audience. Without a doubt, one of the most iconic game creators of all time is Shigeru Miyamoto, the man who is solely responsible for games from the Mario, Zelda or other franchises, known across the world.

The Nintendo designer isn't resting on his laurels though, after such blockbuster hits, as he went back to the drawing board and used the new Nintendo Wii console as a fresh canvas for other ideas. As such, popular games like Wii Fit or Wii Music were born, titles that still dominate the sales charts after quite some time since their launch.

Miyamoto recently talked with Edge about creativity in the gaming industry, and how he thought that a creative aspect had to be considered in any game, in order to make it popular with the mainstream audience. Although some creative endeavors, such as playing music, might appear hard for some people, Miyamoto thought that it was the duty of game designers to make such a thing approachable to any type of person, whether or not said person can play musical instruments.

“I’m often asked the reason why my games are fun to so many people, so I often thought about that and came to think about it in this fashion: when game players find some creative aspect to a game it can become fun. Video games are a unique form of entertainment called interactive entertainment. Players are given the opportunity to make their own decisions and plans, and that’s how this interactive nature can generate circumstances in which players can become creative. I think that’s one of the most appealing points of video games.”

These are some very interesting statements coming from the popular game designer, a few pieces of advice that must be taken into account by the new generation of game creators because a man who made Mario or Zelda can't really be wrong. Let's just hope that Miyamoto will keep the great games coming and that he will still bring smiles to the faces of gamers across the world.
