Launched in a world that seems dominated by smartphones, the Cowon X7 hard-disk based portable media player has finally made it to the UK, its large hard disk drive catering to all those users that prefer to carry all their music around with them for the ride.

Although this is indeed bulkier than a smartphone while also being heavier (coming in at 212g), the large 160GB hard drive can store an impressive amount of files, being music or video, as the Cowon X7 can playback a wide rage of video formats including, AVI, DIVX, Xvid, WMV and ASF.

The content will be displayed on the 4.3-inch resistive touchscreen that features a 480x272 resolution, Cowon's creation promising to deliver 10 hours of video or 103 hours of music playback on a single charge.

Furthermore, this device also comes with a wide range of other features such as a FM radio, a voice recorder, picture viewing, document viewing as well as a Flash Player and other applications.

Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 2.0, the X7 also featuring built-in speakers and a video output port that allows it to be connected to a big screen TV.

However, the best part about Cowon PMPs is usually their sound quality, the X7 providing users with a 95dB signal to noise ratio as well as 20Hz ~ 20KHz audio frequency range.

Last but certainly not lest, the Cowon X7 also features a smart widget user interface that pretty much resembles the UIs we find in many touchscreen smartphones.

Available to UK users through the Advanced MP3 Players online store, the Cowon X7 comes in two different variants, one with 120GB and one with 160GB of storage space, for £229 and £249, respectively.

Considering the prices I am sure these will be purchased only by those that are really passionate about their music, the rest of us probably sticking to our smartphones. (via Pocket-lint)
