MTV Games and Harmonix announce that they plan to release a new downloadable pack track for Rock Band 2. The twist is that, for the first time, the videogame is getting a bunch of country music tracks and the addition is surely set to make some players very happy as they use their fake instruments and play their favorite music game.

The DLC will include five new tracks, all of them from accomplished country artists. Here’s the full listing: “Mud on the Tires” from Brad Paisley, “Hillbilly Deluxe” from Brooks & Dunn, “Free & Easy (Down the Road I Go)” by Dierks Bentley, “Sin Wagon” from Dixie Chicks and “Gunpowder & Lead” by Miranda Lambert. All the tracks will be original master recordings. If the initial country offerings are successful, Harmonix might be thinking of offering more.

The tracks will become available for download on December 16 on the Xbox Live Markeplace. As always, PlayStation 3 users will have to wait a couple of days as the same tracks will become available on the PlayStation Network on December 18. If you plan to get just one of the tracks, the price is 1.99 dollars, or 160 Microsoft Points, while getting the full pack will cost 8.49 dollars, or 680 Microsoft Points.

Harmonix mentions that, since November 20, 2007, more than 28 million paid downloads for the Rock Band series have been completed and that players can now choose from more than 500 tracks to play in the game. Recent estimates from various analysts seem to be indicating that while Rock Band 2 is still a hit, the game has not managed to get the sales Electronic Arts had projected. Releasing more varied downloadable content could be seen as a way to boost the sales of the title.
