New characters are here

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has just received some downloadable content. There are two different packs you can get from Xbox Live and, although there's no official confirmation yet, it seems that the content will be available shortly via the PlayStation Network.

The Jedi Temple Mission Pack costs 800 Microsoft Points, which is the equivalent of 10 dollars, and will offer all would-be Sith apprentices a chance to practice their Force powers and lightsaber techniques in a level based on the most sacred temple of the Jedi. There will probably be no Jedi apprentice massacre but the new level should be welcomed by those who have already finished the game.

The highlight is not the fact that you can play a whole new level of the game but the chance to replay the whole game using another character. The DLC pack costs 400 Microsoft Points and includes ten new characters. These are: Jango Fett, the original Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi, a generic Republic trooper, Plo Koon, the evil Count Dooku, C-3PO, a Spirit apprentice, a Utility Combat Suit apprentice and an Animated-style Apprentice. The less appealing aspect is that these characters are pretty much new skins and nothing more. The stances of the character do not change and the combat and Force animations are the same as in the original game, which is pretty annoying. It's especially jarring to see that Luke Skywalker uses the same reverse grip on the lightsaber as the Apprentice. Maybe LucasArts is getting ready to offer further DLC, changing combat animations for 5 dollars.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has been a big retail success even if some reviewers thought the game lacked a certain polish and that some sequences were annoying (like pulling down the Star Destroyer by using your Force related powers).
