The company will ship them about half a year later than expected

According to the latest news on the Web, Compal Communications, a Taiwanese Original Device Manufacturer (ODM) that works with a range of companies among which Palm is also included, has been forced to delay the shipments of two devices for Palm, yet the name of the handsets hasn't been unveiled so far.

It seems that Compal Communications was expected to ship said smartphones in mid-2009, yet the company is awaiting for some new chipsets from Qualcomm, and will not be able to ship the devices until sometime at the end of the ongoing year, reports the news site DigiTimes citing the Chinese publication Commercial Times.

There are little chances that the highly expected Palm Pre mobile phone will be one of the delayed devices, as the ODM for the handset was previously reported to be Chi Mei and not Compal. It has been suggested that the delayed smartphones would be two yet unannounced mobile phones from Palm.

As such, we should be able to see Pre launched on the market on schedule, which would be a great thing, both for enthusiasts, who can hardly wait to see if the handset will indeed be able to take iPhone's crown, as well as for the company, which announced yet another quarterly loss recently, and expects the upcoming device, said to become available in the second quarter of the year, to help it regain lost market share.

While reporting the aforementioned delay, DigiTimes has also stated that Motorola Alexander, a handset that was expected to be manufactured by Compal, has been canceled by the American mobile phone maker. At the same time, it seems that fewer units of the Motorola A3100, also a device manufactured by Compal, will be produced in the future, given the fact that the handset will be available on fewer markets than originally planned.
