Weren't developers against mods and stuff like that...?

You've heard of mods right? Whether it's your indoors entertainment system you want to mod, or your handheld system, such as the PSP or the Nintendo DS, there's always someone who goes around the company's back and develops a mod chip/software enabling your system to do magical things, not possible before. Developers are generally against mods, but not Mindware Studios. They've announced plans to release a community created mod for their FPS entitled PainKiller, from Dreamcather Interactive. The mod's Code Name is "Over Dose."

Shhh, don't tell anyone! Code Name: Over Dose... Heh! Anyway, Mindware studios claims that the scope of the project is unique, as most community mods offer one game experience - usually multi-player with a new twist on existing gameplay.

The Over Dose mod will do something totally different though. It will offer gamers a completely new single player experience, including new levels, new weapons and new end bosses! Wow! And they call this a mod? Why don't they just say they've come up with an expansion pack for PainKiller and get it over with? Oh I get it, it's that Code Name: in reality it is an expansion pack, but code named Over Dose, it will be referred to as a game-mod. Right.

OK, the reality is, Code Name: Over Dose is a game mod. As the name of the process implies, it will modify some of the parts of the game, such as certain levels and ending. Makes you wonder though: did they discover something wrong with it and didn't want gamers to find out, or was it just pure inspiration that struck them with this mod thing?

So far, nothing much is known, except for what you've just read above, but Mindware encourages you to check back frequently over the next couple of weeks as the frame work is laid for the website and forums. Can't wait to see what this expan... sorry, mod will bring.
