Clearwire Communications, LLC, an operating subsidiary of Clearwire Corporation, announced today that it planned on launching a 4G network in the city of Malaga, Spain. Through this move, the company expands its Internet services in Europe for the first time, and will offer connectivity to around 600,000 people, as it will cover the entire metropolitan area of Malaga. Clearwire’s 4G Internet service will come to Spain under the name of Instanet, and should deliver true broadband speeds to users, the company also noted.

The launch of the new service will offer residents in the area the possibility to enjoy the fast speeds WiMAX can deliver no matter whether they are at home, on the street or at the office. The performance of the service is similar with the one offered by Wi-Fi, though it does not come with the short-range limitations traditional hot-sports feature. Clearwire 4G can offer speeds of around 3 to 6 mbp, with peak rates of around 10 mbps.

According to Clearwire, some of the features the new service delivers include: A mobile professional no longer needs to seek out Wi-Fi hotspots or be constrained by the speeds and limitations of 3G modem cards; A college student or retiree can now have affordable Internet service to meet their needs at home, on campus and on-the-go; A commuter can now work or access entertainment sites like YouTube on the way to and from home.

At the same time, the pricing of the service offers great flexibility to users. The Instanet 4G rate plans are available for purchase both with and without service-contract. Moreover, the plans do not come with a usage cap, and their pricing starts at €29.90 a month. A series of other offerings are available for users as well, along with combinations of them, such as one between the 4G Instanet Home and 4G Instanet City, which results in a 50 percent discount for life. Clearwire is excited to bring to Malaga residents, businesses and visitors an Internet experience similar to what they’re used to having at home or the office, anywhere in the metropolitan area or on the go. The commitment of local government along with the region’s status as a technologically-savvy and cultural hub makes Malaga a natural fit,” said Gilberto Sanchez, managing director of Clearwire Spain. “Nearly 600,000 Malaga residents will be able to access the Internet immediately and affordably without the disadvantages or delays of traditional ADSL services.”
