And the full release is just two weeks away

Rebellion's Aliens vs Predator is now just two weeks away from its launch, and what was a marketing breather for Sega seems to have ended. For the last couple of weeks, AvP has been handing out a steady flow of pieces of information about the title, and one week of silence was a bit of a surprise. But that ended when a multiplayer patch was released for the classic game.

Two weeks ago, Rebellion teamed up with Valve and its digital distribution service, Steam, to bring back the Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000. And while some of the game's original features weren't quite ready for 2010 just yet, Rebellion thought that the game's single player would be enough for the time being. Priced at only $4.99, the title served the obvious purpose of teasing us even more about the studio's upcoming resurrection of the AvP franchise.

But the developers didn't abandon the project, and the classic first-person shooter finally received an update that enabled the game's multiplayer and supported Steam interaction. The update provided the following improvements, but, unfortunately, the game doesn't support dedicated servers, and it looks like this isn't going to change at all:

Integrated with Steam overlay; Uses Steam name; Host/join games via bare-bones in-game lobby browser; Can invite and join friends and other players via the Steam overlay; Game attempts host migration; Dedicated servers are not supported or planned; Supports windowed mode with -w command line switch.

And if that's not enough AvP news to get you sated, Rebellion has just released the Survivor Mode trailer. The game mode is pretty much your standard Infestation mode, with the Colonial Marines trying to survive insane odds, while fighting wave after wave of xenomorphs.

There's plenty of action in the trailer, as will most likely be in the game as well, and if the main horror aspect of the humans vs. xenomorphs battle is the silent stalking, this time around it's sheer terror through numbers. If you're used to relying on the Motion Sensor to get you alive out of the fights, this time around you might want to take the time to look for the off switch. It's better if you don't know just how many there are out there.
