2K Games, as the publisher, and Firaxis, as the developer, have announced that their turn based strategy title Civilization V would be getting a new round of downloadable content, consisting of two new civilizations and one new complete scenario, on December 16.

The new pack will be sold for 7.49 dollars and the two new civilization and leader combos include the Spanish, who will be ruled by Queen Isabella, and the Inca, who are watched over by Pachacuti.

It's pretty clear from the announced civilizations that the actual scenario will be build around the great exploration period in European history and about the conflicts which arose both between potential colonial powers and between them and the natives of North and South America.

The scenario description shows an interesting premise, saying “The year is 1492. To the courts of England, France, and Spain come intrepid explorers, anxious to voyage across the Atlantic in search of a western route to China and the Indies. Will they find a new trade route and uncover untold riches from the Asian shores?”

Firaxis also offered some justification for the choice of its new leaders, saying Isabella was crucial to Spanish history because of her role in the Reconquista and for the fact that she was ready to spend money on Columbus' dreams, while Pachacuti is important because he was the one who built the Inca empire that would then come crashing down when colonists arrived.

It seems that Firaxis is determined to deliver new DLC for Civilization V in order to keep interest in its game high, and as long as they managed to deliver new civilizations with interesting new abilities and units, fans of the game will keep coming back to see how they can best be used to achieve victory.

Civilization players can already enjoy, as a free download, a Mongol civilization.
