City of Heroes is set to get another update, in the form of Issue 13, dubbed Architect. The new offering from NCsoft comes with one of the features most requested by fans, the ability to create custom made missions and even entire custom made story arcs.

The developers say that they are practically offering players of City of Heroes a somewhat stripped down version of the tools that they use while creating new content for the game. Gamers can choose the setting of the missions, the enemy locations and even the dialog between the various characters.

Matt Miller, who is the lead designer of the game, stated that the Mission Architect is "not meant for 'easy leveling' or 'badging' or 'farming'. Those are things that we specifically wanted the Mission Architect NOT to do. This may be a disappointment to some, I know. The goal was to give creative minds an outlet to tell the stories they have in their heads. We didn't want the system clogged with Farm missions, so actually finding someone's story that they lovingly crafted became more a chore than it was worth".

Players themselves will be able to evaluate the various fan made missions and story arcs. Those who create cool new content for the game can look forward to some in-game benefits.

The update also introduces Day Jobs, which reward characters for the time spent outside of various buildings while the player is logged off, and a new Merit Reward system that encourages players to take part in trials, task forces, strike forces, and raids by offering them access to tokens which can then be redeemed for in-game items.

The Issue 13 update to City of Heroes does not have a firm release date yet and is not set to introduce a new zone for players to discover but the Architect features are set to keep players busy for months.
