14 DAY TRIAL // Even though reports said earlier that Cheryl Cole was a sure pick for Simon Cowell’s US version of the highly popular X Factor, a new report suggests that nothing is set in stone just yet. In fact, singer Christina Aguilera is now also in the running for the position.
Misformusic.com claims to have it from a very reliable inside source that Aguilera is being considered for the position as judge on the upcoming show, even if Cowell is adamant it should go to longtime collaborator Cole.
Simon is constantly telling producers that Cheryl is the right person for the job but they, it would seem, are not entirely convinced.
They’re also considering pop stars Rihanna and Katy Perry, with the latter being somewhat of a favorite because she’s already been a guest judge on the UK version of the show, to great success.
Just recently, Aguilera’s name was also thrown in the equation, the aforementioned e-zine notes, citing a well-placed insider. Cheryl Cole is said to be furious that she’s being pushed aside.
“An insider has revealed that although Rihanna and Katy have been named as contenders for the role neither have the time to commit to the show. Christina Aguilera on the other hand has reportedly been in long talks with show bosses and seems very interested,” the e-zine reports.
Since both the bosses and Aguilera are “very interested,” Cheryl knows she has reason to worry because she only has Cowell to back her up – and she really wants this job to break on the American music market.
“Although Simon is desperate for Cheryl to join him on the judging panel, bosses just aren’t convinced. Both Rihanna and Katy Perry have been mentioned as possible candidates but neither would be able to take time out of their busy work schedule to be judges,” the insider reveals.
“Christina is the one all bosses are agreed on. She has it all; looks, talent and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She is a massive star globally and her voice is recognized as one of the best of all time so there really isn’t any competition especially where Cheryl is concerned,” the same source explains.
