14 DAY TRIAL // As People magazine puts it, this has been a bad week for celebrities: pop star Christina Aguilera has just confirmed she and her husband of 5 years have separated.
Just yesterday, confirmation came that Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who had been married for no less than 11 years, had decided to go their separate ways.
Now, Aguilera’s rep too has issued a statement announcing that the singer and her husband are no longer together – but they remain committed to raising their son Max together.
Just like in the Cox-Arquette case, Christina and Jordan are not seeing divorce attorneys just yet, waiting to see if the time spent apart can solve whatever marital issues they have.
“Yes they are separated. Right now they’re just trying to figure things out. There are no divorce proceedings at this point,” a publicist for the singer tells People.
A few months ago, word got out that Christina and Jordan had problems with their marriage and that they were on the verge of divorce.
“They have their ups and downs like all married couples. They argue like everyone else,” a source close to the couple told the same magazine at the time, rubbishing talk of divorce.
The couple’s romance and subsequent marriage was surprising to fans – but as if taken from a fairy tale nonetheless.
Christina and Jordan were engaged in February 2005 and married later that year, in November, in a ceremony held in Napa Valley, California.
“At the time, the singer recounted the romantic proposal, which took place in a hotel room filled with rose petals, red and pink balloons and gift boxes, each containing a present and a self-penned poem,” People writes.
“When I got to the last box, there was a ring in it. He got down on one knee and said, ‘Will you do me the honor of being my wife?’ I’ve been floating ever since,” the singer said at the time.
In January 2008, son Max was born, after much speculation whether Christina was truly pregnant or not, since she refused to go on the record with an announcement until she wrapped up her ongoing tour.
