14 DAY TRIAL // They were considered among the oddest but, at the same time, most adorable couples in showbiz: Courteney Cox and David Arquette have just confirmed they’ve been separated for a few months.
Though plagued in the past by rumors of a breakup, which alternated with talk of a second pregnancy, David and Courteney have always put up a united front and managed to stay together for 11 years (as a married couple, they’ve been together for more than that).
While unnamed sources are telling the US media that what happened to make the two drift apart was simply “life,” the two stars have issued a statement to confirm they’re no longer together, People magazine informs.
Just like they’ve always been as regards their relationship, David and Courteney remain very discreet about their personal life, refusing to reveal too much about the split.
“The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage,” they say in the statement.
“We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply,” they continue.
In fact, reports say that the two are handling the split in such an amicable manner that attorneys are not even involved at this point.
“As we go though this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together,” the statement further reads.
A condition of the separation is also that both can see other people while they’re trying to see whether there’s anything in their marriage left to save, reports say.
Neither David nor Courteney would openly admit to that: but they do hint that they won’t be talking about the separation in more details, asking for their privacy to be respected.
“We are comfortable with the boundaries that we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well,” they say in the same statement.
However, for fans who are stunned by the news, there could be some hope: sources close to the couple are saying divorce is not on the table just yet and that they are determined to make this work.
