Singer doesn't see weight gain as something negative, thinks she's a role model

Over the weekend, Christina Aguilera performed with Maroon 5 at the American Music Awards 2011 but, despite an excellent performance, all eyes were on her heavier figure. She thinks she looks just fine as she says, sources tell Radar Online.

There's no denying Christina remains the same dedicated performer as always but, these days, it's her figure that's getting all the headlines.

The same happened over the weekend, when she took to the stage at the AMAs in a shiny white bandage dress that, instead of flattering her figure, only hung to all the humps and bumps, even making her appear pregnant from certain angles, as the video below will show.

Since the performance, there's been a lot of talk of whether Christina should consider a change of wardrobe now that's become plain to see that she's gained some weight and simply can't pull off the same outfits as back in the day when she was stick thin.

Far be it from her, says a close friend to Radar. Christina is a Latina with curves and she's proud of it. Consequently, she won't be losing any weight and she won't be changing her wardrobe anytime soon either.

“Christina loves her curves. She is not pregnant! She’s a Latina woman with curves and since when is it not ok to have curves?” says the pal.

Not only is the singer proud of her body, but she also believes that, by dressing in more revealing outfits, she's setting a good example for all women out there.

Being beautiful doesn't necessarily mean being painfully thin.

“She feels like she is setting an example for women and young girls, especially Latinas. She’s very proud of her curves. Christina thinks she is a good role model – not everyone is super skinny and she wants girls to embrace their body type,” says the insider.

Because of all this, Christina will continue wearing dresses like the one she donned for the awards show over the weekend.

“It’s not what you look like in a dress, it is how you feel and it is about owning your dress. If you want to wear a tight dress then own it. She says you need to be happy in your own skin the way she is happy in hers,” says the spy.
