Over the weekend, Christina Aguilera made a rare public appearance, performing at the Michael Jackson tribute in Cardiff, Michael Forever. Aside from praise for the gig, she also received a lot of criticism for the way she was dressed given her obvious weight gain.

One expert has a possible explanation as to why Aguilera might have shown up on stage in an ill-fitting and very unflattering leotard and fishnets: she isn’t aware of how she looks and may actually be deceiving herself into thinking she looks good.

Jackie Keller, CEO of Nutrifit in Los Angeles, has never met or treated Christina for anything but, for some reason, is fit to offer an expert opinion on her disastrous appearance at the MJ tribute, in a new interview with Radar Online.

Christina, Keller says, suffered from an eating disorder when she was younger and it may have affected her perception of self, which would explain why, to this day, she never knows how to dress for her body.

It’s not that she’s gained weight that’s the problem but rather the fact that she doesn’t know how to put on clothes that flatter her figure, the expert underlines.

“She is totally unaware of how she looks, no one dresses like that unless they think they look good,” Keller says.

“Even if it was years ago, if she did suffer from an eating disorder then the effect of that stays with you and causes a distorted body image,” the expert adds.

“Yo yo-ing in weight completely throws off your metabolism, which is why it is important to feed your body properly,” she continues.

If rumors that Aguilera has been drinking more than she should are true, then she has another problem besides the above-mentioned one, because alcohol is increasing her calorie intake by too much and, at the same time, screwing up her metabolism.

“When you start gaining it cascades and just piles on and on. You only see what you want in the mirror, it’s the same as with anorexia. You only see yourself from the neck up and are unaware of how under or over-weight you are,” Keller notes.

Aside from hiring a good stylist, Christina should cut alcohol and processed food from her diet and start eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise, Keller continues: she is about 40 to 50 pounds (18-23kg) overweight, which is a lot for her tiny frame.
