Christina Aguilera, or The Voice for short, will finally get to see her acting dreams come true, as Screen Gems has just made official her involvement in “Burlesque,” an upcoming film, Variety confirms. The project is set to go into production later this year, and has been written by Steven Antin, the brother of Robin, who founded the legendary Pussycat Dolls singing band and Las Vegas burlesque act.

“Christina Aguilera will make her screen debut for Screen Gems in ‘Burlesque,’ a contemporary musical that Steven Antin will direct. Antin wrote a script that was revised by ‘Erin Brockovich’ scribe Susannah Grant.” Variety says of the upcoming film. As of now, no further details on the production have been released – but what is known is that Aguilera will not only be making her silver screen debut, as she will also be playing the leading role, that of an aspiring singer and dancer.

“Aguilera will play an ambitious smalltown girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club that appears to be right out of Bob Fosse’s ‘Cabaret.’ Donald De Line will produce. Pic will shoot late this year.” Variety further explains. A representative for Screen Gems has already spoken out about the film, saying that the movie studio couldn’t be more thrilled about the collaboration, and assuring fans that they will certainly be in for the ride of their life, as the part of the girl in “Burlesque” has been specifically been written with Aguilera in mind.

Speaking of girls and burlesque, as well as of the Antin brothers, Robin Antin continues to have problems with the Pussycat Dolls, her biggest act to date, as they can’t seem to shake off rumors they’re heading for a split. Recent reports have it that the band is on the verge of breaking up, if they haven’t done that already and are just playing along until the girls are done with promoting their latest album, “Doll Domination.”

Reports have it that Nicole Scherzinger is sick of being part of the PCD, and is dying to try a solo career once more. To add insult to injury, sales for “Doll Domination” have been well below expectations, and the fact that the girls continue to release singles under the label “Pussycat Dolls Featuring Nicole Scherzinger” has done nothing to help quiet rumors down.
