Fresh off an arrest for public intoxication and amidst ongoing reports that she’s in desperate need for rehab, Christina Aguilera has landed her first television show: she will be a coach and mentor on upcoming singing competition The Voice.

NBC and producer Mark Burnett had been courting Christina for quite some time with an offer, with Burnett telling Entertainment Weekly no other singer could have suited the job better than her.

Christina too is very thrilled about the idea of helping out young artists, up and coming singers or simply people with extraordinary voices who never knew they could dream of a career in showbiz, get their big break.

In her endeavor, she will be joined by Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green.

“I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it,” Christina says in a statement to EW.

“To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists’ careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms,” she adds.

“I am so happy to be working with fellow Grammy Award winners Adam and Cee Lo as I feel there is so much we can all bring to The Voice,” Christina explains.

Those saying that The Voice will try to compete with American Idol should think again because the format is no different.

Every judge chooses contestants he or she wants to mentor by listening to their voice only. That is to say, no one will be judged by whether they have that “star” quality or “extra” factor, but only by how well they can carry a tune.

And there’s no one better to judge that than Christina Aguilera, Burnett says in a separate statement for the aforementioned e-zine.

“When I decided to produce The Voice, I immediately knew that my first choice for a female coach had to be Christina Aguilera. Christina has a perfect voice and is an undeniable force in the music business. She is the epitome of The Voice,” Burnett explains.

Of course, as EW also notes, the kind of media attention Aguilera has been getting lately for issues from her personal life can’t possibly hurt. The Voice premieres on NBC on April 26.
