Attorney says the case against his client could drop

A couple of hours ago, Chris Brown’s high-power attorney Mark Geragos was in court for the first hearing in the Rihanna assault case. As he was leaving, Geragos hinted that they might ask the judge to dismiss the entire case because of the media leaks that took place between the alleged assault, on February 8, and the first time that Brown took the stand in April to plead not guilty to all charges, TMZ informs.

According to the celebrity gossip website / paparazzi agency, Geragos is seriously considering saying that the case is not valid because of the many pieces of information that got out in the media, including a photo of a really battered Rihanna and the police notes taken on the scene of the incident. Moreover, the attorney says, if that were the case, it would be entirely the fault of the police, since all these bits were part of an ongoing investigation, and the authorities were supposed to make sure that none of it got out there.

“Leaks can form the basis for a motion to dismiss the case in regard to outrageous governmental misconduct.” Geragos told TMZ on the steps of the courthouse, as he was leaving. Therefore, it is further being said, Geragos “is asking for discovery – in other words, he wants the LAPD to ante up whatever info they have on info about the case that has gotten out.” Whether he has already filed a motion in this sense is not yet known, but will undoubtedly be made public at a later time.

As fans must remember, Brown’s legal troubles began on the night of February 8, when he allegedly got mad at his then-girlfriend Rihanna for peeping into his text messages, and beat her close to a pulp. Among the injuries the “Umbrella” singer sustained in the altercation were bite marks on her arms and fingers, bruises on the neck from being chocked, a broken lip and a bleeding nose, and two contusions on each side of the head, as a photo that leaked on the Internet revealed.

Initially, Brown asked the judge to postpone his arraignment, presumably with the intention of coping a plea with the DA in the meantime. At the beginning of April, the singer stood in court and pled not guilty to the two charges, domestic abuse and making criminal threats. The trial is currently underway so, for further updates on it, keep an eye on this space.
