On Sunday, 19-year-old singer Chris Brown was identified as the attacker in a domestic abuse case. While the victim has not been named, speculation has it that it might have been his girlfriend, Rihanna. Since then, Chris presented himself to the police headquarters and surrendered himself. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is now free after being booked on making criminal threats and physical abuse.

The incident occurred on Sunday in a rented vehicle, eyewitnesses tell the police. Brown was fighting with a woman, and, as the quarrel escalated and he got out of the car, it moved in the street, at which point concerned passers-by called 911. When the police arrived, Brown was nowhere to be found, but the woman identified the singer as her assailant and an investigation was started.

A few hours later, Brown presented himself at the police headquarters, where he was booked on domestic violence charges and making criminal threats. The identity of the victim has not been released to the media, as is standard procedure to protect the victims of this type of abuse. However, speculation has it that it could have been Brown’s girlfriend, singer Rihanna, since she too dropped out of the Grammy Awards, which took place last night.

When the couple dropped out of the awards, where they were both supposed to perform, a Grammy rep confirmed for several media outlets that Rihanna’s face was slightly bruised, adding  “We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending tonight’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We’re sorry she is unable to join us this evening.” Oppositely, a publicist for the singer says that “Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support.”

As of now, this is the extent to which things are known about the Chris Brown assault incident. “The exact charge was criminal threats and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation,” Police Sgt. Bridgett Pickett told the media about the arrest. Stay tuned here for more.
