Pop star Cheryl Cole is now Mrs. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, after she tied the knot in secret to her boyfriend of 3 months Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini. Even though he has the reputation of a player and she’s worth an estimated £16million ($27.3 million / €20.2 million), she refused to sign a prenup.

News of this comes from the British tabloid The Mirror, who has it from a source close to the star that she was opposed to the idea of having her attorneys draw up a prenup for her and Jean-Bernard to sign before they exchanged “I Dos.”

“She is a canny businesswoman but in matters of love, she believes the heart should rule the head to a certain extent,” says the tipster.

At the same time, reports online claim that Cheryl is already pregnant, but also that the marriage might not be legally bounding just yet, for reasons that, funnily, no one is able to name.

Regardless, Jean-Bernard seems like the kind of man rich women avoid if they’re thinking marriage and starting a family. The British media describes him as a French playboy who spends most of his time partying in exclusive spots all over the world, a failed student and celebrity wannabe.

He and Cheryl met in Cannes this May, where she attended the Film Festival and he, we’re guessing, had come to party with the richest people in the world.

There is no exact mention of his worth, but there is an understanding that he isn’t as well off as Cheryl, in which case she should have been a bit more cautious before getting married to him.

Then again, we know that Cheryl finds the idea of prenups, these contracts so popular in Hollywood because here, the very marriage is going extinct (with some notable exceptions), utterly “disgusting.”

In a 2006 interview, speaking of her romance with football star Ashley Cole, Cheryl said, “I think that’s defeating the point. We’re getting married because we’re committing ourselves to each other to spend the rest of our lives together. No ifs and buts.”

“I think they [pre-nups] are disgusting. I could understand if you’re 93 and you’ve got billions of pounds and this 24-year-old wants to marry you in a month. But we’re a work in progress, we’re going to build our married life together not thinking about if it ever ends,” she continued.

Some years later, Cheryl would see her entire world crumble to pieces when Cole finally confessed to her he had been cheating on her all along. The divorce battle was long and nasty, seeing the former spouses fighting behind closed doors for things like who gets to keep the dogs or the jewelry.
