On Sunday’s X Factor live results show, Cheryl Cole made her comeback to performing, officially kicking off the promo tour for her upcoming album, “Messy Little Raindrops,” with a rendition of “Promise This.”

Though initial reports said that Cheryl would be performing live, thus putting to rest rumors that she couldn’t sing and dance at the same time, it has emerged that her performance wasn’t exactly “live” in the strictest sense of the word.

As the Daily Mail informs, insiders say that Cheryl actually taped her performance before the actual show, while also receiving some help in the singing department to make sure she didn’t botch her new song.

“After initially denying that she had mimed any of the song, show insiders finally admitted that she may not have sung every single note,” the Mail writes.

Fans commenting online believe that Cheryl actually lip-synched the entire song, because there’s no way she could have pulled off the energetic dance routines and the singing at the same time.

“What fans at home were not told is that her entire performance was recorded before the show started,” the Mail further says.

“It appeared to viewers that she was performing the song live. But in reality her routine had been recorded in front of the studio audience about an hour before the show began,” the same report reads.

In other words, Cheryl had plenty of help with her performance. Then again, seeing how her job on X Factor is to judge hopefuls’ live singing, she has a lot to live up to so it’s no wonder she’s doing her best not to disappoint.

And that she didn’t do: dressed in a white military-style jacket, hotpants and bondage tights, Cheryl’s performance was lively, as she danced with her backup troupe, all men in black shirts and fancy ties, getting on one knee in front of her.

As we also reported at the time, when she performed “Fight for This Love” last year, also on X Factor, viewers said that she mimed the song then as well.

Nevertheless, back then too, Cheryl’s performance was welcomed with very warm applause, just like it was the other night.
