A few days ago, we told you that Samsung was preparing to launch a larger version of the Galaxy S6 edge smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy S6 Plus.

It appears that this year at IFA 2015, Samsung won’t unveil two new handsets, but only one - the Galaxy Note 5. However, the Korean tech giant plans to compensate by bringing the Galaxy S6 Plus out into the world.

And today, the handset has appeared in an exclusive image for the first time, which got embedded in a video presentation for HTC’s own M9. The picture showing the phone (you can spot it around the 3:44-minute mark) was apparently sent to popular YouTube gadget reviewer Marques Brownlee, so we expect it to depict the real deal.

The Galaxy S6 Plus image shows up quite fleetingly, but even so, we can see that the device bears a distinctive Galaxy S6 edge look, but the display is noticeably larger. Brownlee himself mentions that the phone will come with a larger display than the 5.1-inch panel found on the double-edged variant of the Galaxy S6.

Purported specs of the Galaxy S6 Plus

According to earlier leaks, the Galaxy S6 Plus takes advantage of a 5.4-inch or 5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edged display with a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor (just like the LG G4) in tow. It appears the Snapdragon 808 will become quite popular, and even Microsoft’s upcoming Lumia 940 and 940 XL phones are rumored to take advantage of this particular chip architecture.

Back to the Galaxy S6 Plus, the phone will don a 16MP rear camera that will probably take advantage of all the goodies the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update will bestow on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in just a few. These include RAW support, lower ISO values and iPhone-like manual control of exposure.

Overall, the Galaxy S6 Plus is going to be pretty similar to the S6 edge in terms of specifications, except for the bigger display and the absence of the Snapdragon 810.

Moreover, the Galaxy S6 Plus won’t come with stylus support, because it’s a variant of the Galaxy S6. We are expecting Samsung to launch the phablet in a few weeks, so stay tuned as more information about the new phone is revealed.
