The update will probably come in the next two months

We have already told you that Samsung is currently prepping the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge and that we expect the new build to bring some major improvements in the camera department.

Among these new features we detailed a function which was until now available to users of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - being able to manually control exposure in a seamless, intuitive way. We’ve also been speculating that the new update will bestow RAW shooting capabilities, but now, a new report coming out of Sam Mobile adds credibility to the claim.

On top of that, we’re told that lower ISO values will also be added to the camera app with the upcoming update.

New camera features for the Galaxy S6 are coming soon

The Pro mode of the camera app already allows users to fiddle with the ISO settings, with 100 being the lowest value that can be accessed at the moment. But with the new update, an option to select even a lower value (probably 50) will probably be added.

Being able to access lower ISO values means users can take crispier photos with less noise compared to snapping an image with high ISO levels. However, lower ISO also has its insufficiencies. For example, the camera will take longer to snap an image. On top of that, it decreases shutter speed levels.

Even if RAW support is a pre-requisite of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the feature is not available with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge for the time being. The same happened with the HTC One M9, but the smartphone was recently updated with the option.

The recently unveiled LG G4 also sports this capability, so the new build will put the two flagships on par with other competing products on the market, in terms of photo prowess.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are expected to receive the Android 5.1 update sometime between June and July, but there’s no exact date available for the time being.

The two flagship smartphones will probably be among the first to be updated to Android M, after Google officially rolls it out probably in November.
