Turtle Wireless is showing its first GSM-enabled device at the CES expo this year. More known as a retailer and mobile phone accessories manufacturer, the US-based company has announced its plans to launch a tri-band GSM network compatible phone that looks just like a wristwatch. After successfully selling its 'B-Dazzle' line of accessories, Turtle Wireless hopes to enter the handset market with a gadget that seems to define the company's portfolio.

The new TWP-800 GSM Watch Phone offers some interesting features that can make it more desirable over some of the mid-level handsets available on the market these days. Beside the WAP/GPRS compatibility and the small touchscreen, the wristwatch embeds no less than 128 MB internal memory. Just enough to fill in some multimedia files that can be used with integrated MP3/MP4 player and Bluetooth headset also included in the sales package. Moreover, the phone will get the option of increasing the multimedia storage space through a microSD card reader, but only in its second generation.

Those expecting WLAN connectivity will be disappointed as the device doesn't feature any wireless Internet capabilities, but there might be a possibility that a Wi-Fi receiver will be integrated in future upgraded models.

"We have to go ahead and get the specs ready for the North American market," Shiraz Odhwani, a spokesman for Carrollton-based Turtle Wireless, said in an interview. "Pending the FCC's approval, we're looking at (a U.S. launch in) the second quarter."

If you liked the device and didn't already freaked out you can get one from the Latin-American market starting January 13th. The wristwatch won't cost you more than $200 USD, but the company promises a special line of 'B-Dazzle' accessories that will suit the device. For those willing to pay the right price, the accessories will be richly added with gemstones and Swarovski crystals. The line will include flashing protective covers (requires low power adapter), pouches and more.
