The 80Plus Gold rating may have been the rave at some point, but it seems the even higher 80Plus Platinum rating is what PSU makers are into now, with Enermax even planning to show off a model of this kind at the upcoming expo.

Those end-users interested in such things will probably know that the 2011 edition of CeBIT is approaching.

CeBIT is an international IT trade show that takes place in Hannover, Germany, and is the stage where various products will be launched.

Already companies have started to hint at and/or reveal just what their product portfolios will include and what will be on display.

Enermax has already been shown to have prepared several cooling products, but it also seems like high-efficiency PSUs are on the list.

In fact, the so-called EXX900 power supply has an output of 900W high enough energy efficiency that it earned the 80Plus Platinum rating.

To be more specific, the unit has an efficiency of 91.07% at 20% load, 92.51% at 50% load and 90.12% when used at 100%.

This means that the outfit will compete against the likes of Huntkey and Cougar, whose CeBIT exhibitions will also include 80Plus PSUs.

Of course, the product will have a suitably high price, so only real enthusiasts will afford it, but owning a PSU of this sort will still serve to show off a company's expertise.

That said, since the product was going to be expensive anyway, the outfit had no problems with using a modular design.

Enermax will display the EXX900 alongside the aforementioned fans and coolers, as well as two high-end PC cases.

Unfortunately, as was the case with most CeBIT products so far, there is, at this time, no way of knowing when sales start, nor at what price.

Of course, since it is seen as a sort of prototype, one can be sure that others will follow sooner or later.
