Waterproof and shock-resistant

Together with STM-7100, the luxury designed industrial PDA, the South Koreans from WoongJin also showcase at CeBIT 2008 (4 - 9 March, Hanover, Germany) their new STM-8100, a compact and slim industrial PDA designed for distribution, factory, delivery service and retail shop environments. No details yet about its pricing or availability, but it should hit the market pretty soon.

STM-8100 runs on Windows CE 5.0 Professional and comes with a 3.5 inch TFT touchscreen display (260k colors and 240 x 320 pixels resolution), the same as STM-7100. However, STM-8100 is smaller and slimmer. But don't expect it to be too small, because it's kind of huge when compared to a normal PDA.

STM-8100 packs an Intel PAX 320P 806MHz Processor, 1GB of NAND Flash memory, 128MB of RAM DDR (up to 256MB), and provides dual-band 1x CDMA and tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity. There's also WLAN (802.11b/g), built-in GPS SirF III, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, a 2 Megapixel camera with flash, SD card slot, DC jack and battery charging slot. The PDA includes a 1D Laser scanner (2D only for PDF 417), it can operate at temperatures between -10 and 50 degrees Celsius and it can be stored at temperatures between -20 and 60 degrees. Moreover, it's waterproof and it withstands 1.2m drops on concrete floors.

WoongJin seems to have done a good job with both STM-7100 and STM-8100, so we're waiting for more new devices from the company.

Check out the below live pics from CeBIT with STM-8100 - the PDA looks kind of funny when held in hand as an every-day mobile phone, doesn't it? :)
