While Canon is the undisputed leader among Japanese companies with the largest number of patents approved each year, other players on the digital camera market are also looking to bring innovations to their products through new patents.

Japanese website Egami has discovered today a new patent filed by Nippon electronics maker Casio regarding a new OLPF (Optical Low-Pass Filter) switching unit. The patent describes a new switching system placed between the OLPF and the image sensor, which will prevent back-focus.

The company has recently unveiled its latest compact digital camera flagship, the Casio EX-100, which comes with a longer 28-300mm (35mm equivalent) lens that has a maximum aperture of f/2.8, constant throughout the entire zoom range.

In addition to that, the camera packs the same 12.1MP 1/1.7'' BSI CMOS sensor as the EX-10 and can also use biaxial bracketing to take up to 9 photos at the same time using two bracketing variables, including Contrast and Saturation, Brightness and White Balance, and many more.
