Video game publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that it is working on Cartoon Universe, a new free-to-play online world that will be designed specifically with kids in mind, allowing them to inhabit a small, social environment where they can play games and solve puzzles.

In their various enterprises, the kids will be helped by a number of characters taken from Looney Tunes and from Scooby-Doo, two of the most important cartoon franchises that Warner Bros. handles.

Cartoon Universe will have two separate worlds at launch, where gamers can customize their characters, collect achievements and discover new adventures.

The Looney Tunes island is based on the new show featuring the timeless characters, focused on insane quests and graphics.

Separately, players can also join the Mystery, Inc. gang on the Scooby-Doo island and solve mysteries in some spooky environments.

Samantha Ryan, the senior vice president of Production and Development at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, stated, “Cartoon Universe is an online game filled with safe, social worlds designed just for kids. They’ll love discovering a constantly changing place full of fun activities, cool rewards and memorable humorous moments with their favourite characters!”

Martin Carrier, the vice president and studio head of WB Games Montreal, added, “It’s a privilege to bring some of the most popular Warner Bros. characters to Cartoon Universe, a brand new interactive environment available online.

“With Cartoon Universe being our first endeavour as a studio, we are benefiting from close collaboration with the different divisions of Warner Bros. Studios, which we will apply to all of our other games in development.”

The development team at Warner Bros. Montreal says that it will continue to add new content to Cartoon Universe after launch and that it will also introduce a number of seasonal events that deliver more rewards and quests.

Cartoon Universe will be released in North America in late 2012 and in the United Kingdom and other countries in early 2013.
