Carey Mulligan is one of the few young actresses for whom both critics and fans fell the very instant they saw her. Fresh-faced, talented and a smile that can melt even hearts made of stone, the British actress is featured in the latest issue of Elle UK magazine where she speaks, among others, of Botox.

Carey is young: at 25 years old, she hardly needs any of the many things science has made possible for women looking to be their best at all times. Still, she says, that didn’t stop one doctor from offering her Botox.

According to the star, one doctor told her she should get Botox to smooth out the fine lines she has on her face and which, as it must be common knowledge, have nothing to do with wrinkles, they’re expression lines.

Obviously, she turned down the offer, saying that she never aimed to be considered a beauty in the first place, because she wanted to be noticed for her talent and not her looks.

“So I can’t move my face? Isn’t that the antithesis of what I’m trying to do as an actress? Only in LA would someone try and give you Botox when you’re 25 years old,” Carey says with indignation.

Speaking of body image, the always soft-spoken Carey reveals she doesn’t see herself like she’s described in the media: if anything, she’s the contrary of how she’s portrayed in the papers.

“I’ve never felt like a [hot] person… I’ve always felt like a sensible person. I’ve always felt absurd wearing anything revealing,” she says, smiling her famous dimpled smile.

“I’m not trying to sell myself as a visual. I’m selling my willingness to play a part really well. If your body doesn’t look normal, how can you convey normal people, how can you be relatable?” Carey explains.
